is defined as the condition of the body in those respects influenced by the diet, the levels of nutrients in the body and the ability of those levels to maintain normal integrity. it can also be defined as a requirement of health of a person convinced by the diet, the levels of nutrients contained in the diet and normal utilisation of the diet.
normal nutritional status is managed by balanced food consumption and normal utilisation of nutrients. Normal assessment of nutritional status is the interpretation of anthropometry, biochemical, play Nico and the three data to determine whether a person or group of people are well-nourished or malnourished.
Factors affecting nutritional status
The nutritional status of an individual is generally dependent on two factors:
I. External factors: such factors include food safety, social, cultural and economic factors. These factors are environmental factors that affect the person.
II. Internal factors : these factors are found within the individual under consideration. Such factors include age, sex, nutrition, behaviour, physical activity and disease of the person.
The factors that affect nutritional status include age, gender, growth, disease state and genetic makeup. The factors above are biological factors. Age of individuals affects their nutritional status. At early age, the body is engaged in high rate body build up. This will require sensitivity in the supply of body building foods (proteins). Little or no supply of protein with high amounts of carbohydrates will lead to kwashiorkor while in elderly people, reduction in protein might not lead to kwashiorkor. It can be noted that age has effects on nutritional status of people, especially children. The rate of utilization of nutrients or the bioavailability of the nutrients are greatly reduced in old people.
The hormonal level of both gender are quite different. The body chemistry of females are more complex compared to males. This affects the utilization of nutrients of nutrients in the body, hence affecting the nutritional status people.
People at within the age of growth tends to affect the utilization of nutrients and it’s availability in the body. At this point, the system is interested in nutrients and will embrace the absorption of those nutrients.
Some diseases puntures the level of some nutrients in the body, it either increase it’s level or decrease it’s level. Some diseases like diabetes, is a very good example of diseases that affect the body’s carbohydrate level. Other disease state also impairs nutritional status such as obesity and others.

Genes encodes the expression of bodily features. An error in the coding will definitely lead to a disorder. Some times it can be advantageous. Mostly, these disorders will lead to a deviation from normal. Some disorders can affect metabolism.
They are primarily termed metabolic disorders. When there is a shift in the coding of genes associated with insulin production, it will make the protein to be stored as pro enzyme. This will affect the pathway responsible for storage of carbohydrates. By doing so, nutritional status of the person is bridged.
The purpose of screening is to rapidly identify patients at high risk and such screening or assessment will define a person’s status and also defines clinically-relevant malnutrition.
